Writing Assignment 1
NOTE: This course has been approved by the Faculty Senate Writing Across the Curriculum Committee
to fulfill the Writing Intensive requirement in the ISOM major.
Goal: This is the goal of the Paper:
How New & Emerging Technologies are Making an Impact on Businesses
• The sections are very specific and prescriptive
• Use a professional tone (as if responding to a business request)
• This is not a research paper. – Do not use quoted material – it must be your own words (don’t
worry – you’ll be fine)
• Cutting and pasting source material or using any form of generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) is a
violation of Academic Standards. If SafeAssign detects unattributed sources, I have no choice
but to submit for Academic Standards review.
• 1250-1500 words (about 3-4 pages) as a minimum, Microsoft Word count can help you count
the words. Please submit the paper in MS Word.
Criteria: Address each criterion in its own paragraphs(s) in order:
1. Who is the user of this technology and why do they use it?
2. Why is this technology of value to the user?
3. How is this technology valuable to the technology creator/owner?
4. Describe how three key features of the technology work
5. Describe the strengths of the technology. What does it do well
6. Describe the weaknesses of the technology. What does it not do well
7. How well publicized is this technology, why?
8. What would you change or add to make this technology better?
Note: do not include the question, but instead restate it as a statement that begins the paragraph – ask
me for clarification if this is not clear.
Submission: This paper must be in MS Word format and submitted to the class blackboard site for the
assignment. Formats other than MS word will count against the grade. Papers sent via email will not be
graded.

Paper must be double spaced, 11-point type, 1-inch margins on all sides.
